The history of the Rolex GMT-Master debuted with a collaboration with the now defunct Pan American Airways, the first model was released in 1954-1955 and given to the crew on the long-haul flights. The major feature was the second time zone (GMT) with dedicated hand giving time on the rotatable red & blue bezel that had a 24-hour display, hence the “Pepsi” nickname. The Rolex GMT Master 1675 was in production from 1959 until 1980 and was initially only available with the iconic red/blue Pepsi bezel insert. It wasn’t until the early 1970’s that an all black bezel was made available. Prior to 1965 the GMT Master was powered by the Rolex calibre 1565 automatic movement - from 1965 the calibre 1575 was used.
