As the world’s oldest diamond company (est. 1789), Backes & Strauss has constantly looked forward, pioneering new diamond cutting techniques and enthralling connoisseurs with its compelling designs. We wanted to combine mastery in diamond-cutting with mastery in watchmaking; two crafts requiring a high amount of skill, precision and attention to detail. While searching for a partner watchmaker, Backes & Strauss chose to work with the Franck Muller Group in 2006 because of its revolutionary creative philosophy of combining tradition with modernity, an attribute Backes & Strauss shares. Reflecting Backes & Strauss’ London provenance, the five core collections of timepieces are: Berkeley, Piccadilly, Regent, Renaissance and Victoria. Crafted in either 18 karat white or rose gold and elegantly set with diamonds, these watches are inspired by London’s Regency architecture, notably the classical proportions and bold symmetry of John Nash’s work for the Prince Regent in 1811. All Backes & Strauss watches are entirely made in the Geneva workshops of Franck Muller Watchland, where all of the watch components are produced in-house.
