Introduced in 1968, the design of Patek Philippe's Ellipse is no accident, as it is based on the golden ratio, considered the “divine proportion” found in nature and in the greatest architectural and artistic works. Following on from the first men's references 3546 and 3548, reference 3849 was introduced in the late 1970s and remained in production until 1998. The caliber 215 is the first to be equipped with the Gyromax, operating at 28,800 beats per hour. This movement is distinguished by its remarkable stability over long periods, making it ideal for everyday use.

Patek Philippe is the last Family-Owned Independent Genevan Watch Manufacturer. Iconic models are the Nautilus, Aquanaut, Calatrava, Cubitus, Ellipse, Twenty~4 and grand complications. Since 1839 without interruption, Patek Philippe has been perpetuating the tradition of Genevan watchmaking. As the last family-owned independent watch manufacturer in Geneva, it enjoys total creative freedom to entirely design, produce and assemble what experts agree to be the finest timepieces in the world – following the vision of its founders Antoine Norbert de Patek (1839) and Adrien Philippe (1845). The company name became Patek Philippe in 1851, and it is under this name that Patek Philippe created the first Swiss wristwatch ever made in 1868. Thanks to its exceptional know-how, Patek Philippe maintains a tradition of innovation hailed by an impressive repertoire of more than 80 patents.
